Michigan State dominates the Nittany Lions, 86-49. I picked an excellent game to take the Official Wife and Official Sons of the Spartans Weblog to. This was, of course, a home game against the second worst defensive team in the conference. But that shouldn’t detract from the fact that the Spartans played with a combination [...]

Fellow tempo-free adherent Happy Valley Hoops has the game preview from a Penn State perspective. He says Jamelle Cornley is playing hurt, which should help MSU on the boards, and thinks turnovers are the key. Of course, we know that turnovers are ALWAYS the key for our Spartans. Speaking of which, Ken Pomeroy asserts that, [...]

A few noteworthy items before we get to the game preview. Ford Field Still a Possibility? Joe Rexrode lays out the possibility that MSU could still play at Ford Field in the regional semifinals/finals. He notes this would be a function of going in as a low seed, though, and therefore having a reduced shot [...]
The Magic Man

Who better to talk to a basketball team about playing creative, attacking basketball than Mr. Earvin Johnson? Magic was in the house today! “He just talked about getting our passion and our confidence back and playing like we did early on in the season,” senior guard Drew Netizel said seconds after emerging from the meeting. [...]

Rankings Update Michigan State plummets from 10/9 in the AP/coaches’ polls to 19/17. Their national ranking among Big Ten teams is now consistent with their place in the conference standings: 4th. Wisconsin is 11/10. Purdue and Indiana are 14th and 15th–Purdue higher in the AP poll, Indiana higher in the coaches’ poll. Oddly, the Sagarin [...]

In an effort to manufacture some optimism for the rest of this season–and maintain my own mental sanity–here are the Spartans Weblog Top Ten Reasons to Feel Good About Michigan State Basketball: 10. Spring training has started. OK. That’s not basketball-related. Let’s start over. 10. Drew Neitzel is on pace to finish 2nd on the [...]

Well, the starting lineup thing worked, huh? With Lucas in the lineup at tip-off, MSU came out attacking the basket. Marquise Gray pulled down a couple tough defensive rebounds. And MSU built an 18-8 lead over the first 9 minutes. And then . . . IU crushed us . . . like a paper cup. [...]
A couple pre-game perspectives from Hoosier land

The Hoosier Report expresses some of the apathy that seems to be running through IU country about the team’s on-court endeavors these days. He does provide a nice little tempo-free summary of our Spartans. As I commented on his site, though, this sentence struck me oddly: “The Spartans don’t shoot many three pointers, but prefer [...]
Are we better than we were last year?

First, a few links: Izzo may start Lucas, Neitzel, Morgan, Gray, and Naymick tonight. This would be work for me. As expressed in the last game recap, Lucas needs to be on the floor from the outset of games. Could get Suton more minutes with White off the floor to grab a few offensive rebounds. [...]
Indiana Game Preview

9:00 Saturday. Assembly Hall. ESPN. Dickie V is back like a bad rash. Indiana fans will be looking to pull off something called a “stripe out”; looks complicated. The Hoosiers have, of course, been in the headlines a lot this past week–and not so much for their on-court performance. Despite the requisite no-rush-to-judgment caveats from [...]
