Going into the Kansas game I am confident that these Spartans can handle the duo of Collins and Aldrich with Walton and the plethora of Spartan big men. If MSU plays the kind of game it is capable of playing then we should see some what of a repeat from the Jan 10th game.
Of course inconsistency is this teams MO so who knows if they will play their best ball come Friday. Lets hope they do because this Kansas squad is definitely much improved from Jan 10th.
There are six regional covers (Gonzaga, Jeremy Pargo; Michigan State, Kalin Lucas; North Carolina, Ty Lawson; Oklahoma, Blake Griffin; Pittsburgh, Levance Fields; and Syracuse, Jonny Flynn). Hopefully the jinx will be sufficiently diluted so as not to affect our fortunes.
How ’bout the women’s team!!! Down goes Duke. Wonder if Joanne is starting to think maybe MSU was good to her and her husband after all…
On another note, I saw on an ESPN interview at midday with Izzo that he came up with a video and two word saying for the team: “become legendary” to motivate the team to the final four. He explained his philosophy about leaving your mark and building for the next MSU players and the final four in our backyard. If that doesn’t get the team up, nothing will! It even motivated the ESPN commentator to state: “It should be a four word phrase: ‘Ford Field: become legendary’” and then she asked Izzo if he would use her phrase. Memories of ’05 with the hammer and the video tape.
Congrats to the womens’ team — that’s fantastic. I will admit that I’m baffled how we, as a 9 seed, had a home game against the 1 seed . . . but still, quite a win.
Off topic: May I make a recommendation for the new super site? I didn’t see the game, but apparently there was a shot of Dantonio, Izzo and Hollis sitting together at the women’s game tonight. I think a picture like that might make a decent banner for the new site.
Also, for the new super site: Here I am, being like “Oh, cool. MSU got into the sweet 16 in the Women’s NCAA tournament and I haven’t even heard anything about us.” Why exclude the women?
SI Jinx? No way! I would call it a burst of good luck! Doesn’t anybody remember the SI cover “The Super Sophs, Michigan State’s Classy Earvin Johnson?” How did that work out in 1979? I’m sure the Spartan’s 2009 star sophomore will see this as an inspiration and not a “jinx.”

I’m not a decision maker for your suggestion, but here is my opinion.
I’m glad the women won…if I want to follow what they do, I’ll go to green & white at the LSJ. I follow them like I follow all green & white sports…I’m an alum and I want to know that my school is representing itself well in athletic and academic endeavors.
I’m passionate about MSU Basketball (Football and Lacrosse are my other MSU passions)and I come here to read and talk about them. Quite frankly I wouldn’t want other sports to clutter up what I think the purpose and mission of this site seems to be: A site dedicated to analyzing and reporting on the Michigan State (and I never qualify this team but will do so to absolutely clear – men’s) basketball team.
It’s still MSU Basketball if women play it, right? I don’t see how it’s an “other sport.” Still, if the men’s game is what we legitimize as a nation of sports fans, I see your point. I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about them either, but that’s not because I think it’s a less important thing. It would be nice to have an outlet for MSU’s women’s team too. We ARE a basketball school, after all.
Any worries about a possible SI jinx?

Too bad Sherrod Collins isn’t on a cover then.
Woah. And I was going to comment yesterday that we seem to be getting the least press of any 2 seed this week.
This would have been a tremendous cover to hang on my bedroom wall as a kid.
This is not good. Not at all.
We are so screwed now. Damn you, SI jinx!
I figured it was a regional cover and hopefully that dilutes the jinx, but it would have been better if Collins or Aldrich were gracing one too.
Holler if you’re a mark!
Luckily Izzo is undefeated in Indy, which means the SI jinx will be doing battle with Izzo’s Indy mojo!
what’s stronger, the SI’s jinx or the Madden jinx??

I’m not sure Coach Dantonio would appreciate that designation…
If not, he only has John L. Smith to thank.
